A Prototype of Desiring Being
Performance Video, 00:02:27
This project was initially inspired by the publication “Towards a Philosophy of Photography” by Vilém Flusser. The video piece explores how technical image is encoded with desires of consumer society. The narrative figure in the video elaborates this idea by moving, dancing, and posing in front of a camera. This figure in costume and mask embodies confusions, fears, and desires in response to the projection of social expectation onto itself. The skin-toned costume suggests an empty surface for self-representation, which is a process of externalizing an impression that others might have of oneself.
